Lumail vs AWeber: Which Email Platform Fits How You Work?
AWeber prices by subscriber tier with a send cap. Lumail bills by emails sent, stores unlimited subscribers, and lets AI agents run workflows.

In this guide
AWeber is an established small-business email marketing suite priced by how many subscribers you store; Lumail is an email platform priced by how many emails you send, built so AI agents and developers can operate it. Both send campaigns and run automations. The difference is who does the work and what the bill follows.
AWeber bundles landing pages, signup forms, light ecommerce, and 24/7 human support into one dashboard. Lumail puts newsletters, graph workflows, and transactional email in one organization that humans, agents, and code all reach. AWeber facts here come from its official pricing page as of August 2026; plans change, so check before you buy. For the compact version, see the side-by-side comparison table.

Choose Lumail if AI agents should operate your email
AWeber takes AI seriously. It offers a hosted MCP server with 15 tools for subscribers, lists, and broadcasts that works in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor at no extra cost, plus a REST API and in-app writing assistants. What it does not offer is a CLI or TypeScript SDK, and its API does not reach its automation builder.
Lumail exposes 89 organization-scoped MCP tools covering campaigns, subscribers, tags, segments, workflows, templates, analytics, and transactional sending. The same operations run in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor, and through a CLI, a TypeScript SDK, and a REST API. An agent works on your real audience and real workflow state, not a subset.
In practice you can ask an assistant to:
- build or edit a workflow graph, not only a broadcast;
- tag and segment subscribers before a targeted send;
- trace why a subscriber took a specific branch;
- send a receipt or password reset from the same account;
- summarize last month's results without exporting a CSV.
Choose Lumail if you store a large list and do not want the bill to jump with every subscriber tier, or if your product needs transactional email next to its newsletter.
Choose AWeber if you want one supported small-business suite
AWeber has been doing this since 1998 and is built for owners who do not have a marketing team. It bundles more than email, and it puts people on the phone.
Choose AWeber if:
- you want landing pages, signup forms, ecommerce checkout, and web push in one dashboard, with 24/7 human support;
- you would rather have experts set up your account, through its Done For You option or free migration into AWeber;
- you have under 500 subscribers, and 3,000 monthly sends plus one workflow is enough.
Lumail does not compete on landing-page builders or ecommerce. It provides capture pages for subscriber acquisition, but its center of gravity is the email system itself.
Compare the pricing models, not the starting prices
AWeber charges by the number of subscribers you store. Each tier also caps how many emails you can send each month: 10 times your list size on Lite, 12 times on Plus. Unsubscribed contacts are not billed, and growing past a tier upgrades you automatically. Lite limits you to one list, three landing pages, and three automations; Plus removes those limits.
A few reference points from AWeber's published monthly prices:
- 500 subscribers: Lite $15, Plus $30;
- 5,000 subscribers: Lite $60, Plus $90;
- 20,000 subscribers: Lite $185, Plus $215.
Lumail charges by emails sent and never by stored subscribers:
- Free: 3,000 emails per month, no credit card;
- Premium: $20/month with 40,000 emails included, then $0.60 per 1,000;
- Business: $200/month with 400,000 emails included, then $0.40 per 1,000.
A worked example
Say you have 20,000 subscribers and send a weekly newsletter to the whole list, so about 80,000 emails a month.
On Lumail, that is Premium: $20 for the first 40,000 emails, plus 40,000 more at $0.60 per 1,000, which is $24. Total: $44 a month.
On AWeber, 20,000 subscribers costs $185 a month on Lite or $215 on Plus, before you send anything. Lite's 200,000-email cap covers the newsletter easily, but it also limits you to three automations, so a business running several funnels would likely need Plus.
The shape holds in general. AWeber's model rewards small lists you email often, up to the send cap. Lumail's model rewards large lists, especially ones you email selectively. If you only have a few hundred subscribers, the two free plans are roughly equal on sending: both allow 3,000 emails a month.
Compare automation and transactional email
AWeber's workflows are a visual builder with the essentials: a starting trigger, emails, waits, tags, RSS checks, and split paths that branch on opens, clicks, tags, or purchases. That covers welcome sequences, abandoned carts, and resends to non-openers. The limits come from the plan: one workflow on Free, three on Lite.
Lumail's workflow engine is graph-based and included on every plan. It supports subscriber, tag, event, schedule, and manual triggers; email, wait, action, and webhook steps; condition and weighted branches; and goals and exit rules. The same graphs are readable and editable from the app, MCP, CLI, SDK, and API.
Transactional email is the clearer split. AWeber does not sell a transactional API or SMTP service; its purchase follow-ups are marketing automations. A product that needs receipts and password resets pairs AWeber with a second provider. Lumail sends transactional email through the REST API or smtp.lumail.io:587 with STARTTLS, in the same organization and on the same domain as your campaigns.
Migrating from AWeber to Lumail
- Export subscribers and suppressions. Export active subscribers with their tags and custom fields, and export unsubscribes too, so you never re-mail someone who opted out.
- Authenticate your sending domain. Set up SPF and DKIM in Lumail and verify the domain while AWeber keeps sending.
- Rebuild workflows by hand. AWeber's API does not cover its automation builder, so recreate each workflow as a Lumail graph and test it with a few addresses.
- Replace forms and landing pages. Move signup forms to Lumail capture pages and update the links on your site.
- Send one campaign, then connect your agents. Send to a small consented segment, check rendering and links, then run one real task through Lumail's MCP tools before moving the full list.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lumail an AWeber alternative?
Yes. Both send campaigns and automate email. AWeber is a small-business suite priced by subscriber tier; Lumail stores unlimited subscribers, bills by email volume, and lets agents operate workflows and transactional email.
Is Lumail cheaper than AWeber?
Usually, once your list grows. At 20,000 subscribers AWeber Lite is $185 a month, while Lumail Premium covers 40,000 emails for $20. A list under 500 subscribers can stay free on either.
What is the main difference between Lumail and AWeber?
AWeber prices by how many people you store and caps sends at a multiple of that list. Lumail prices by emails sent and is built so agents and developers operate the same account as humans.
Can I migrate from AWeber to Lumail?
Yes. Export subscribers and unsubscribes, import them into Lumail, and rebuild workflows by hand, since AWeber's API does not export automations. AWeber's free migration service only moves lists into AWeber, not out.
Which one should you choose?
Choose AWeber if you run a small business that wants email, landing pages, and a checkout in one dashboard, with a person to call when something breaks, and your list is small enough that subscriber pricing stays cheap.
Choose Lumail if your list is large or growing, your product needs transactional email, or you want agents to build workflows and run campaigns through 89 MCP tools rather than only draft broadcasts.
