Lumail vs GetResponse: Which Email Platform Fits How You Work?

Lumail bills by emails sent with unlimited subscribers; GetResponse bills by list size and adds funnels, webinars, and courses. Compare pricing and AI.

Lumail vs GetResponse: Which Email Platform Fits How You Work?
In this guide

Lumail is an email platform that bills by emails sent, with unlimited subscribers on every plan. GetResponse is an all-in-one marketing suite that bills by contact-list size and bundles landing pages, funnels, webinars, and courses around email.

Both send campaigns and run automations. The difference is what you pay for and who does the work: GetResponse charges for the audience you store and gives marketers a wide dashboard, while Lumail charges for what you send and lets AI agents operate the whole email system. GetResponse facts in this comparison come from its official pricing page as of August 2026. Verify current limits before purchasing, and see the side-by-side comparison table for the compact version.

Choose Lumail if AI agents should operate your email

This is the structural difference, and it matters more than any single feature row.

GetResponse offers in-app AI generators for emails, subject lines, and landing pages, plus a documented REST API, but no official MCP server, CLI, or ChatGPT app. Its AI helps a person who is driving the dashboard. It does not let an assistant operate the account.

Lumail exposes 89 organization-scoped MCP tools covering subscribers, tags, segments, campaigns, workflows, templates, analytics, and transactional sending. The same operations run inside ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor, plus a CLI, a TypeScript SDK, and a REST API. An agent works with your real audience and campaign state, scoped to your organization.

In practice, you can ask an assistant to:

  • draft next week's campaign from a brief and your existing template;
  • build a segment from tags and engagement before a targeted send;
  • read a workflow and explain why a subscriber took a specific branch;
  • summarize last month's results without exporting a spreadsheet.
Campaign editor

Surveys live in the same editor as the rest of the campaign. Agents can draft the send; a human still hits Test and Schedule.

Humans still review and schedule in the visual editor. The point is removing the operational clicking, not the judgment.

Choose GetResponse if you want a full marketing suite

GetResponse is built for a marketer who wants every acquisition tool in one account. Paid plans include unlimited landing pages, forms, and popups. Higher plans add ecommerce extras such as abandoned-cart recovery and promo codes, and the Creator plan adds a website builder, courses, webinars, and paid newsletters. It lists more than 150 integrations.

Its pricing also rewards a specific habit: paid plans include unlimited sends, so a small list emailed very often can cost less than on a volume-based plan.

Choose GetResponse if:

  • you want email, landing pages, funnels, webinars, and courses from one vendor;
  • you email a small or mid-sized list many times a month;
  • you need built-in ecommerce recovery or course and webinar monetization.

Lumail does not try to be a funnel or course platform. It offers capture pages for subscriber acquisition, but its focus is the email system itself.

Compare the pricing models, not the starting prices

The starting prices look almost identical, $19 versus $20. The models underneath are not.

GetResponse prices by plan and contact-list size, with unlimited sends on paid plans. At 1,000 contacts, Starter is $19/month, Marketer is $59/month, and Creator is $69/month, with about 18% off for annual billing. The price rises as the list grows: Marketer is $95/month at 5,000 contacts and $114/month at 10,000. The same address on several lists counts more than once. The free plan covers 500 contacts and 2,500 newsletters a month, with automations and the API locked after the 14-day trial.

Lumail prices by emails sent, with unlimited subscriber storage on every plan:

  • Free: 3,000 emails per month, no credit card;
  • Premium: $20/month with 40,000 emails included, then $0.60 per 1,000;
  • Business: $200/month with 400,000 emails included, then $0.40 per 1,000.

A worked example

Say you have 10,000 contacts, a welcome sequence plus an onboarding sequence, and you send two campaigns a month to the full list, so about 20,000 emails.

On GetResponse, two workflows rule out Starter, which allows only one. Marketer at 10,000 contacts is $114/month, whether you send twice or twenty times.

On Lumail, 20,000 emails fits inside Premium: $20/month. In a launch month where you send six campaigns, that is 60,000 emails, so $20 plus 20,000 extra emails at $0.60 per 1,000, or $32.

The reverse case is real too. A 1,000-contact list emailed daily sends about 30,000 emails a month: $19 on GetResponse Starter, $20 on Lumail Premium. Store a large list and email it selectively, and Lumail usually wins. Email a small list constantly, and GetResponse's unlimited sends narrow or reverse the gap.

Compare automation and transactional email

GetResponse gates automation by plan. Starter allows one workflow with up to six elements. Marketer unlocks unlimited workflows with tags, scoring, abandoned cart, and dynamic segments. Free accounts can draft workflows but cannot publish them once the trial ends.

Lumail includes graph workflows on every plan: subscriber, tag, event, schedule, and manual triggers; email, wait, and webhook steps; condition branches; and goals and exit rules. Agents can read and edit the same workflows through MCP, so they can trace exactly why a subscriber received a message.

Transactional email is the clearer split. GetResponse sells it only as an add-on on the enterprise MAX tier, priced by quote. Lumail sends receipts, password resets, and other product email through the REST API or smtp.lumail.io:587 with STARTTLS, in the same organization as your campaigns.

Migrating from GetResponse to Lumail

  1. Deduplicate and export contacts. GetResponse counts an address once per list, so merge lists first. Export unsubscribes and bounces as well as active contacts.
  2. Map tags and custom fields. Recreate the tags and fields your segments depend on, then import into Lumail.
  3. Authenticate your sending domain. Set up SPF and DKIM in Lumail and keep GetResponse live while DNS propagates.
  4. Rebuild your key workflow. Recreate your welcome or abandoned-cart flow as a graph and test it with test subscribers.
  5. Move transactional traffic and connect agents. Point product email at the Lumail API or SMTP, then connect MCP to your assistant and run one real task.

Landing pages, webinars, and courses do not move. If you rely on them, plan where they will live before you switch.

Frequently asked questions

Is Lumail a GetResponse alternative?

Yes, for the email part. Lumail replaces GetResponse's campaigns and automations and adds transactional email and agent access, but not its webinars, courses, or funnel builder.

Is Lumail cheaper than GetResponse?

Usually, if you store a large list and email it selectively: 10,000 contacts on Marketer is $114/month, while 20,000 emails on Lumail is $20. A small list emailed daily can cost less on GetResponse.

What is the main difference between Lumail and GetResponse?

GetResponse is a marketing suite priced by contacts. Lumail is an email platform priced by emails sent, with graph workflows, transactional email, and 89 MCP tools on every plan.

Can I migrate from GetResponse to Lumail?

Yes. Deduplicate and export your contacts, authenticate your domain, rebuild one workflow, send a test campaign, then move transactional traffic.

Which one should you choose?

Choose GetResponse if you want one dashboard for email, landing pages, funnels, webinars, and courses, and you are comfortable paying by list size in exchange for unlimited sends.

Choose Lumail if email is a system you operate: agents drafting and inspecting campaigns through MCP, workflows on every plan, transactional email on the same domain, and a bill that follows what you send rather than what you store.
