Lumail vs SendPulse: Which Email Platform Fits How You Work?

SendPulse prices email by list size and sells SMTP separately. Lumail bills by emails sent, with transactional email and 89 MCP tools in one account.

Lumail vs SendPulse: Which Email Platform Fits How You Work?
In this guide

Lumail is an email platform that bills by emails sent, with unlimited subscribers on every plan. SendPulse is a multichannel marketing suite that bills email by list size and sells SMTP, chatbots, CRM, and courses as separate plans.

Both send campaigns, run automations, and ship an official MCP server, so this is a closer comparison than most. SendPulse wins on cheap channel breadth. Lumail wins on volume pricing, transactional email in the same account, and agents that can operate workflows. SendPulse facts in this comparison come from its official pricing page as of August 2026. Verify current limits before purchasing, and see the side-by-side comparison table for the compact version.

Choose Lumail if AI agents should operate your email

SendPulse takes developers seriously. It has an official MCP server with more than 140 tools across chatbots, CRM, courses, email, and SMTP, connection guides for ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor, a REST API, and client libraries in several languages. What its MCP does not list is its automation product, and there is no CLI or TypeScript SDK.

Lumail exposes 89 organization-scoped MCP tools covering subscribers, tags, segments, campaigns, workflows, templates, analytics, and transactional sending. The same operations run inside ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, and Cursor, plus a CLI, a TypeScript SDK, and a REST API. Because workflows are part of that surface, an agent can build, read, and debug your automations, not just your contact lists and campaigns.

In practice, you can ask an assistant to:

  • draft next week's campaign from a brief and your existing template;
  • build a segment from tags and engagement before a targeted send;
  • read a workflow and explain why a subscriber took a specific branch;
  • summarize last month's results without exporting a spreadsheet.

Surveys live in the same editor as the rest of the campaign. Agents can draft the send; a human still hits Test and Schedule.

Humans still review and schedule in the visual editor. Consequential actions stay behind approval.

Choose SendPulse if you want many channels at a low price

SendPulse's strength is breadth for the money. Beyond email, one account can include chatbots for WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and Facebook, a CRM, SMS, web push, a website builder, pop-ups, and a course builder. Its automation flows can mix email, SMS, and chatbot messages in one journey. The free tier is generous: 500 subscribers and 15,000 emails a month, plus free chatbots and CRM.

Its pricing also rewards a specific habit. Paid plans include unlimited sends, so a small list emailed very often stays cheap.

Choose SendPulse if:

  • you want email, chatbots, CRM, and SMS from one vendor;
  • you email a small list many times a month;
  • you need messenger chatbots or a course builder next to email.

Lumail does not offer chatbots, SMS, or a course builder. Its scope is the email system: audiences, campaigns, graph workflows, transactional delivery, and the programmable surface around them.

Compare the pricing models, not the starting prices

SendPulse prices email by list size, with unlimited sends on paid plans. Standard is $12/month for 500 subscribers, $18 for 1,000, $52 for 5,000, and $78 for 10,000, with 20% off for yearly billing. Transactional email is a separate SMTP product: free up to 12,000 emails a month, then paid plans from $8.85/month for 25,000 emails. Chatbots, CRM, and websites have their own plans.

Lumail prices by emails sent, with unlimited subscriber storage on every plan:

  • Free: 3,000 emails per month, no credit card;
  • Premium: $20/month with 40,000 emails included, then $0.60 per 1,000;
  • Business: $200/month with 400,000 emails included, then $0.40 per 1,000.

A worked example

Say you have 10,000 subscribers, send two campaigns a month (20,000 emails), and your app sends about 5,000 transactional emails.

On SendPulse, the list puts you on Standard at $78/month. The transactional email goes through the separate SMTP product, which is free at that volume, but it is a second product with its own quota and sender approval.

On Lumail, 25,000 emails in total fits inside Premium: $20/month, campaigns and transactional together.

The reverse case is real too. A 1,000-subscriber list emailed daily sends about 30,000 emails a month: $18 on SendPulse Standard, $20 on Lumail Premium. Store a large list and email it selectively, and Lumail usually costs less. Email a small list constantly, and SendPulse's unlimited sends win.

Compare automation and transactional email

SendPulse's Automation 360 builds event-triggered flows across email, SMS, web push, Viber, and chatbots, and can move CRM deals. The number of flows is capped by plan: five on Free, 10 on Standard, 50 on Pro. An AI prompt can generate a new flow, but cannot edit an existing one.

Lumail includes graph workflows on every plan: subscriber, tag, event, schedule, and manual triggers; email, wait, and webhook steps; condition branches; and goals and exit rules. Agents can read and edit the same workflows through MCP.

For transactional email, SendPulse asks you to set up its SMTP product separately, with its own plan, and a moderator approves your profile before you can send. Lumail sends receipts, password resets, and other product email through the REST API or smtp.lumail.io:587 with STARTTLS, in the same organization as your campaigns.

Migrating from SendPulse to Lumail

  1. Export your mailing lists. Export each list from SendPulse, merge duplicates, and bring unsubscribes along with active contacts.
  2. Authenticate your sending domain. Set up SPF and DKIM in Lumail and keep SendPulse sending while DNS propagates.
  3. Rebuild your email flows. Recreate your Automation 360 email flows as graph workflows and test every branch. Chatbot and SMS steps stay on SendPulse or move elsewhere.
  4. Move transactional traffic. Point your app from SendPulse SMTP to Lumail's API or SMTP relay and send test messages.
  5. Send one campaign and connect agents. Send to a small segment first, then connect MCP to your assistant and run one real task.

Frequently asked questions

Yes for campaigns, automations, transactional email, and MCP. It replaces SendPulse fully only if you do not need chatbots, CRM, SMS, or courses.

Is Lumail cheaper than SendPulse?

It depends on list size versus send volume. At 10,000 subscribers, SendPulse Standard is $78/month while Lumail Premium is $20 for up to 40,000 emails, but a small list emailed daily can cost less on SendPulse.

What is the main difference between Lumail and SendPulse?

SendPulse is a multichannel suite that prices email by contacts and sells SMTP separately. Lumail is an email platform priced by volume, with transactional email in the same account and an MCP surface that includes workflows.

Can I migrate from SendPulse to Lumail?

Yes. Export your lists, import them into Lumail, rebuild your email flows as graph workflows, and point transactional traffic at Lumail's API or SMTP.

Which one should you choose?

Choose SendPulse if you want email, chatbots, CRM, and SMS in one low-cost account, and your list is small enough that list-size pricing stays cheap.

Choose Lumail if email is a system you operate: agents working through 89 MCP tools that include workflows, transactional email in the same organization, and a bill that follows what you send rather than how many contacts you store.
